California State Park Spotlight : Mount Diablo

Perched at an impressive height of 3,849 feet, the summit of Mount Diablo can be admired from various East Bay cities, especially when it is dusted with a layer of snow during the winter months. Encompassing over 20,000 acres of beautiful landscapes, the state park surrounding Mount Diablo is a treasure trove of natural wonders. Its rich and diverse ecosystem supports a wide range of plant and animal species, creating a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature explorers. From observing fascinating wildlife to immersing oneself in the beauty of the surroundings, Mount Diablo State Park provides a remarkable opportunity to connect with nature and experience the serenity of this remarkable natural sanctuary.

Since this park is right in our backyard, it is a great place to explore on the weekends. Some of our favorite experiences include:

  • Driving to the top of Mount Diablo on a clear day to have a picnic at the top while taking in the views of the San Francisco Bay and the surrounding landscapes.

  • Exploring Rock City - Kid's of all ages can go bouldering amongst the rocks along this hike.

  • Camping at one of Mount Diablo's campsites - Live Oak Campground or Juniper Campground.

  • Mountain Biking on the various trails throughout the park.

  • In the spring, enjoying all the California poppies (Eschscholzia californica) and other wildflowers that come up throughout the park.
